Our sight, as many other things, reduce their quality as we grow up, for that, if we are drivers with sight problems, we must consider certain tips to drive with glasses.

No matter if they are minor or major, all ophthalmologic problems (those related to the eyes and vision) should be treated as soon as possible. The sooner we do it, there are more chances of correcting them; and is even more important if we are responsible of driving any vehicle.

In countries such as Mexico or Spain, all person that wants to obtain or renew their driver license, must submit to an eye exam; in case of not approve it, must also submit to an additional treatment or wear corrective lenses.

Choose your correct measurement

Nowadays, abounds an incredible and dangerous number of economic lenses with magnification; that, more than lenses, seem like magnifiers. These also affect your sight at long term and don’t work. Each eye requires a specific magnification, without considering that separately, can present different conditions, such as myopia, astigmatism or both, that need to be corrected with special lenses.

Wear them always

Wear your glasses during all the journey when driving, doing this will help you to visualize the road signs and distinguish the different road conditions. All this will help you to react in time.

Wear progressive glasses

After the 40 years old, is common to have presbyopia or eye strain, condition that is identified when seeing close is hard. If you are on that age or present that situation, is recommendable to use progressive glasses, these will help you to see close objects, which is important to correctly visualize the information of the panel of your vehicle.

Not so fast

Driving at high speed will never be recommendable, it doesn’t matter if you need to drive with glasses or not. However, the risk of an accident to a great speed increase if you are someone that wears glasses. Why? When you circulate over 100/km/h, is presented the called tunnel vision, this means that your peripheral view reduces (as if you see through a tunnel) and reduce the ability to evaluate the distances and speeds. Of course, if this gets severe, you are presenting vision problems.

Avoid driving during night

Sometimes, driving during night is unavoidable. When doing it, do it with your glasses, if you have myopia or astigmatism, it will help you to focus in the best way the lights that surround you, including the stop lamps of other cars, the headlights and solar signs with LED light technology

Special treatments

Unfortunately, there are no glasses with windshield wipers, but until that occurs, you can choose glasses with special treatments on the lenses, as antifog and hydrophobic. These would allow lenses to don’t tarnish, and if raining, drops would slip in the lens, instead staying there. Of course, the second is more functional for cyclists, which glasses are exposed to sun directly.

These were some of the most important tips to drive with glasses. However, even though following all these, don’t stop visiting your optometrist every 6 months or at least once per year. It’s important to maintain a correct and updated magnification of your glasses, in addition you can see better, and can help to stop the negative conditions of your eyes.
